Magazine Cover Shoot and Editorial for Miss Glamorous Free State

Miss Glamorous Free State is a provincial beauty pageant seeking to empower young women. The competition is currently open to young ladies from the Free State. However, the founders, Pitchov Ngombe and Dipalesa Mbola, are keen to see the pageant expand to other provinces and even nationally. And with the passion they show for the pageant industry, I believe they will see this dream fulfilled before long.

Having worked with Ms Mbola on previous projects for Bloemfontein fashion label Kristall Mantwa, it was great to meet up again and see the difference she is making in her community. Both the founders are clearly very interested in using this platform to drive change and uplift youth in South Africa. Leading up to the main event in Bloemfontein, the 25 selected finalists receive a short but intense holistic training period of preparation. This provides finalists with both the tools and platform for growth, not only in the beauty industry, but also in the work environment. A cause I can certainly stand behind.

Art Direction

A cover magazine shoot for a pageant entitled Miss Glamorous surely needs to encapsulate the glitz and glammer of the event. As such I suggested the theme of African Gold: the very best the Free State has to offer. For this we would work with metallic tones throughout the styling, from garments to make-up and props.

Magazine Cover Shoot Team

Field Photography teamed up with Rumbie Muzofa from Rumbie by Rumbie to style the models’s wardrobe. This collaboration turned exciting when we started creating jewelry, headpieces and a bow-tie out of metallic props as we shot. Together with the glitter and gold make-up by Clara Banx, the shoot captured the desired effect.

Working with the founders and previous pageant winners was a truly inspiring experience!
