A Steampunk styled shoot with fellow photographer Darrell Fraser!
Following onto the Baroque styled shoot I recently shared from my session with photography team Laura and Jaco Van Schoor, other photography friends have expressed their interest in having a styled session with us. The first of these is Darrell Fraser, who wanted to work with a Steampunk styled shoot theme. Anyone who knows me or has followed my work knows that this is one of my favourite subject matters. For those who aren’t familiar with the style, Steampunk is a sub-genre of sci-fi exploring a future in which we have returned to 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.
With Steampunk garments often inspired by a quasi-Victorian feel, I got in touch with Marelize at Immagika Creative Designs to inquired about her recent foray into the development of a more pret-a-porter range focused on Steampunk styled garments. She was delighted as always to work with us, and went above and beyond to supply us with the featured dresses. I also sourced some props and crafted the top hat for the shoot. The amazing head dress was an unexpected addition from Darrell’s side, and I must say this is a gorgeous piece to photograph!
To complete the post-apocalyptic theme traditionally associated with a Steampunk styled shoot, I added some cityscapes and stormy skies in post-production for dramatic effect. I also opted for a bronze and gold colour palette for the most part, to compliment the theme.
Darrell has such a bubbly personality and was amazing to work with. She brought a wonderful energy to the shoot and I can see why she is such a successful and multi-talented photographer and designer herself!
