The deeper I delve into the query of my own humanity, the more I discover about the natural world.
Particles of light
Our human lives
But a fleeting performance
In this cosmic dance
Natural History Conceptual Portraiture
These still lifes inspired by anatomy and botany were created as illustrations accompanying the workshop Experiment/Play/Create. This event was hosted as part of the annual PHOTO & FILM EXPO in Johannesburg, South Africa. Creating the series in front of a live audience while demonstrating in-camera techniques was rather daunting! But the curious crowd inspired me to play a little more and push a little further, allowing me to put together this story inspired by Natural History.
Sharing my passion for how one can build onto a scene using creative in-camera techniques, we played with slow-sync flash, multiple exposures and coloured gels to build the narrative. Although I am always an advocate for teamwork, the focus of this project was instead based on simplicity. It removes any excuses for procrastination, and encourages the creator to act on inspiration when it strikes.
